AQTIVATE is a European Joint Doctorates Project that will deliver interdisciplinary training programmes for 15 PhD fellows, who will utilise high performance computing, develop scalable algorithms and machine learning approaches, and explore quantum computing for research projects in physics, engineering, and biology. AQTIVATE has received a total funding of €3.891.441,60 from the European Union’s Research and Innovation programme Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks action under grant agreement No 101072344. Its duration is 48 months, starting on 1 March 2023 and the University of Cyprus is the Coordinator of this Project.
The AQTIVATE Workshop’s opening session was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Professor Tasos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus, H.E. Ambassador of Italy Federica Ferrari Bravo, H.E. Ambassador of Sweden Martin Hagström, Mr Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist for Research & Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms Helene Francois-Iosifides, the representative of the Embassy of France, as well as university professors, researchers, and scientists from Cyprus, Europe, and Asia.
An opening address was given by: Prof. Tasos Christofides, UCY Rector, H.E. Ambassador of Italy Federica Ferrari Bravo, H.E. Ambassador of Sweden Martin Hagström and Mr Demetris Skourides Chief Scientist for Research & Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus.
During the 3-day meeting, the AQTIVATE fellows, supervisors and mentors had the chance to physically meet each other, to present and discuss research topics related to AQTIVATE. The early-stage researchers presented their research done for their Master thesis, they drafted their personal career development plans and planned their future steps. In addition, the meeting included discussion sessions regarding diversity matters, sustainable research management and environmental awareness in the context of the ESRs’ individual personal development and research perspectives.
